題目

What can we learn about red giants with asteroseismology

要旨

Part 1: I shall make a very brief introduction about asteroseismology to present the various signatures of solar-like non radial oscillations Part 2: The CoRoT satellite, launched in December 2006, has gathered numerous red giant data during two long runs of 150 days of observation. About 1000 red giants located in the exoplanet field of view have been analyzed and they show clear signatures of radial and non radial oscillations. This allows us to perform a statistical study and to confront it with a population synthesis model of our galaxy. Our results show that most of the red giants detected are red clump stars. Since these stars have a very well defined luminosity, we propose to use their asteroseismic properties as a new distance indicator in our galaxy. Part 3: We have computed numerous red giant models ascending the red giant branch as well as burning helium in the core. From their asteroseismic properties, we attempt at reproducing or predicting the observations already obtained with KEPLER after 34 days of observation. Part 4: From data obtained by CoRoT from one red giant observed in the CoRoT seismology field of view during a long run of observation, we show that the precise location of the He 2nd ionization zone can be derived. Moreover, from these asteroseismic data only, we are able to derive the mass and the radius of this star as well as its evolutionary status.
